IB Board

IB board stands for International Baccalaureate, IB offers uniform education across the globe and provides its students with real-world learning opportunities. The elected Board of Governors is responsible for overseeing financial management, choosing and appointing the Director General, setting organisational strategy, establishing policies, and ensuring the objectivity and independence of student assessments. The foundation for what would later become the IB Diploma Programme was developed in 1948 by Marie-Thérèse Maurette (IBDP). The International Schools Examinations Syndicate (ISES), founded in the mid-1960s by a group of educators from the International School of Geneva (Ecolint), later evolved into the International Baccalaureate Office (IBO), the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), and finally the International Baccalaureate (IB).

At first, the International Baccalaureate Organization was referred to as IB. Its headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland, it is a non-profit corporation. IB places a strong emphasis on its motto, "Truth and Knowledge." IB offers the following four educational programmes for children of different ages:

Primary Years Program (PYP)

Children between the ages of 3 and 12 years participate in this programme starting their educational journey. They start to take an active role in their education.

  • Students are equipped and ready to take the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and the IB's Career Related Programme after finishing the MYP (CP).
  • Students with different academic backgrounds and interests can enrol and benefit from this programme, which is inclusive by design.

Diploma Program (DP)

The students in this programme must be between the ages of 16 and 19. It focuses on creating pupils who have a broad knowledge base and a deeper understanding of subjects. It benefits students who are flourishing intellectually, emotionally, physically, and ethically.

  • Curriculum: There are six topic areas in the diploma curriculum in addition to the DP Core, which consists of the theory of knowledge (TOK), an activity, an extended essay, creative writing, and community service (CAS). Students who participate in DP core behave in accordance with their knowledge, conduct independent study, and then, after finishing it, embark on a project that frequently involves community service.
  • Assessment: The work completed by the students is evaluated based on concrete evidence of success compared to the stated course objectives.

Career-Related Programme (CP)

The Career-Related Programme (CP) of the International Baccalaureate is designed for students between the ages of 16 and 19. This programme is an international educational framework that caters to the needs of students who desire to pursue education that is career-related. The programme then moves on to apprenticeships, jobs, and higher education.

  • Curriculum: CP students must complete a core consisting of four components, a career-based study, and at least two Diploma Programme (DP) courses. The career-based study further strengthens the program's academic excellence and offers a practical, real-world approach to learning, while the DP Courses provide the theoretical framework and comprehensive academic requirements of the curriculum. The CP core fosters the development of the abilities and skills necessary for lifelong learning.
  • Assessment: Examinations are planned at the conclusion of DP courses, and these are graded by outside IB examiners. Schools mark the CP core components.
