How To Get Admission In EWS Category?

Everyone has the right to attain education throughout the country and the world. The recent National Education Program 2020 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education objectives clearly state the 10 % reservations for the economically weaker sections of the general category who hold the EWS Certificate.

The Process

Various measures have been taken by governments and international organizations like the UN which has introduced 17 Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs to remove the gaps in education permanently for the financially weaker sections of society as a whole. For instance, the Government of the National capital of Delhi issued a circular for the admission of the EWS section in the privately unaided recognized schools of Delhi at entry level for the academic session 2022-2023.

The circular states that the students will be selected as per the computerized draw of lots which means on receiving the admission applications there will be a draw that will select a particular, allotted number of students from the EWS section of the society. One requires certain ID documents to submit and complete the admission process. After the computer draw, the students are selected and informed through SMS on their registered mobile number within 24 hours from the completion of the draw of lots. Applicants can check their success at the designated website as well to know the name of the school allotted.

After having been selected at the computer drawing/ private school selection procedure, the candidates- parents are required to produce the following details:

  • The printout of the application was filled out,
  • Latest, Passport-size photograph,Self-attested, proof of birth copy, proof of address
  • Aadhaar Card, Self-Attested copy of a Residential proof
  • The age criteria for EWS admission for Pre School or Nursery is from 3 to 5 years, Age Criteria for KG or pre-primary schooling is 4 to 6 years old.
  • Self-Attested copy of Documentary proof from EWS certificate
  • Income certificate from the parents issued by competent local authorities Authorized Declaration of the family income is less than 1,00,000 INR.
  • Schools shall enter into a further verification process of the documents submitted.
  • Students can join the schools on the first academic day itself after fulfilling the document requirement
  • Schools do not charge tuition fees to the students admitted

The EWS certificate gives a direct educational advantage from various schemes introduced by the government on a timely basis. EWS certificate is different from a caste certificate that helps people to get government benefits based on the caste reservation system.

You can get the EWS certificate from the local ‘Tehsil’ also called the “Income and Assets Certificate” which is the proof required to avail of the EWS reservation.

Eligibility Criteria to procure an EWS certificate?

There are a lot of things that get verified by the local tehsil authorities such as:

  • The annual income of the family is not more than INR 100,000
  • They should not possess any other reservation certificates
  • In the case of the farmer or anyone the agricultural land cannot be more than 5 acres
  • The plot area of the applicant cannot be more than 200 square meters
  • The residential area of the applicant cannot be more than 1,000 square meters.

How long does it take to get the EWS certificate?  

It takes 21 days maximum time to process the EWS application from the date of submission.
