Our teaching principles incorporate these five elements of nature, namely Water, Earth, Air, Fire, and Space, as we are of the opinion that they should form part of children’s holistic learning. This idea derived from the Indian tradition and reflected in the Western tradition such as Waldorf Education forms the basis of our thinking. The pedagogy that we thus follow is “Panchamahabhutas”, which states that the human body is made of five basic elements but in different proportions. To this end our curriculum is a way of helping the students to cope with these elements while at the same time acquiring knowledge. As soon as the children get admitted to Sharda World School, they are introduced to the element called Water. Moving from Foundation, Preparatory, Middle and High School, the different elements of the school consist of the Earth, Air, Fire and Space. This journey offers a lot of possibilities for the development of new knowledge, the analysis of the interconnections between different subjects, the synthesis of the concepts, the problem solving, and the critical thinking. In our endeavour, we try to equip the students to forecast the likely consequences and to actualize their creative thinking so that they emerge as individuals of substance.
