St. Joseph’s Convent High School is under the direction of the Congregation of Jesus which was founded by Mother Mary Ward in 1609. The primary purpose of the Congregation is to protect the doctrine and evangelize simultaneously promote the growth of Christians in their spirituality. The foundation of the congregation was laid in the year 1853 in India when three sisters from Munich, Germany set foot in the country after a long sea voyage. In India the Congregation is involved in traditional educational and healthcare ministry and has ministries in social action, pastoral and retreat, counseling and service to mentally challenged in Varanasi. The also engage with people for Dalit Human Rights in Bihar and have partnership with Jesuits and the TORs of Jharkhand in order to empower tribal girls. It is in the same line as what Mary Ward did in the malaria affected areas and the militant affected areas in Assam and Nepal. These values apply to St. Joseph’s Convent High School where students have to be encouraged to achieve their academic, spiritual, and social goals in line with the teachings of Mother Mary Ward.
