Welham Girls School
Welham Girls’ School originally started in 1957 as a dream. A twenty-five year old Miss H. S. Oliphant, an English lady was inspired to set up a college for young Indian women in an independent India. She purchased an estate belonging to a Nawab in Dehradun to help her realise her vision. Education vision of Miss Oliphant was to offer quality education to girl child and ensure that they fetched a good job at the end of their study. Since its inception, the school has developed into an esteemed girls’ school well-known for its quality education and the balanced developmental model. However, the education needs to be balanced so that, in addition to academic education, the school lays emphasis on the development of the overall personality of the students. The environment at Welham Girls’ School thus fosters the development of talents and skills of the girl child for the challenges of the future. It is thus my endeavour that Welham Girls’ School, as an institution continues to uphold Miss Oliphant proposal and continuing to offer a quality education to young women to enable them transform into competent leaders of the future.
